We like heavy metal. And we’re not talking about that music with the double bass and the piercing vocals and the propensity to cause massive headaches. No, we’re talking about the heavy metals of chemistry. Because we’re nerds like that – especially Brewmaster Marc Gottfried. But nerds are in right now, so it’s all cool. Speaking of cool and heavy metal, we won what basically amounts to a stein full of medals this beer competition season, which is pretty cool if you ask us.
Yep, that’s right – your favorite lager continues to win awards year after year. Your kids can keep their “Congratulations on Trying – Here’s a Trophy” awards, but we prefer the real things. You know… the ones you actually get for being good at something. And the consensus is that we’re pretty damn good at brewing beer.
We recently brought home some silver and bronze (which is technically an alloy, not an element and therefore not a heavy metal – told you we’re nerds) medals to add to our collection.
We kicked the competition season off at the 7th Annual New York International Beer Competition (NYIBC) in February, winning a bronze medal in the American Style Premium Lager category for Kräftig Lager. Oh, and they also named us the Missouri Lager Brewer of the Year. Talk about a good start.
Our next win came at the end of May, at the 22nd annual North American Beer Awards. Kräftig Light, judged in the American-Style Light (Low-Calorie) Lager category, won silver. Our Light lager went on to win bronze a couple days later at the 9th annual Denver International Beer Competition.
Kräftig Light medaled again in July, winning silver in the American Light division at the U.S. Open Beer Championship. With this latest win, our six-year medal count now totals 37. Basically, what we’re saying is that our mothers raised some real winners. And we’re looking to win once more this year at the Great American Beer Festival later this month. We’ll be sure to let you know how it goes.
Enough about us though, because at the end of the day, none of this is possible without you. Yes, we’re getting sentimental here, so what? It’s a free country. We can do as we please. And what we want to do is thank you for your support through the years. Our goal has always been to offer a better tasting beer at a price people can afford. Real American Lager is not about us. It’s about you. So, from the bottom of our steins, thank you.
